‘That’s Off’: AA Admits Failures, Employs Bain To Assess Damage As Raja Departs

The Company Dime ($) (May 29, 2024) - American Airlines is doing a U-turn. Speaking Wednesday morning at an investor conference, CEO Robert Isom blamed revenue weakness on capacity planning that didn’t match demand and an off-base sales and distribution strategy.

We moved faster than we should have and didn’t execute well,” he said. “We regret that and the difficulty it created for our agency and corporate communities so we are going to modify our distribution strategy to ensure the transition is not disruptive to our end customers.

[UPDATE, May 30, 2024: An article published by Bloomberg said the Bain project uncovered criticism of former chief commercial officer Vasu Raja, suggesting the resulting report led to his dismissal.]
